FAQ Proportional solenoid valve

Basic understanding
Q. What is Proportional solenoid valve?

A proportional solenoid valve is a type of solenoid valve that continuously adjusts the flow rate and pressure of a fluid in proportion to the input signal (current or voltage).

Q. What is the difference between an electric valve and a proportional control valve?

While the electric valve controls the valve opening by the rotational drive of the motor, the proportional solenoid valve controls the valve opening by the linear drive of the solenoid.

Q. What is the difference between a proportional control valve and an on-off control valve?

Proportional control valves change their opening degree in proportion to the input signal, whereas on-off control valves fully open when the signal is on and fully close when the signal is off.
Proportional control valves enable more precise control and can finely adjust flow rate and pressure, while on-off valves are suitable for simple ON/OFF control.

Q. What is the application of a proportional control valve?

Proportional control valves are essential for controlling the flow and pressure of fluids used in various industries.
-Control of gas flow and pressure in semiconductor manufacturing equipment
-Flow control of carrier gas in analytical instruments
-Flow and pressure control of medical gases and air in medical devices
-Hydrogen flow control in fuel cells
-Combustion control in gas boilers, etc.

Q. Do you have a normally open proportional control valve?

Our company does not produce proportioning control valves with a normally open configuration.

Technique and Specification
Q. What is the flow characteristic?

The relationship between the input signal (current, voltage) and the flow rate of the fluid output from the valve, is closely related to control resolution.

Q. What is the response time of the proportional control valve?

It depends on the type of valve, but generally, it is possible to fully open or fully close within approximately 20 to 50 ms after receiving an electrical signal.

Q. What determines the lifespan of the proportional control valve?

Our company defines the durability of proportional control valves by the degradation of the valve components and fatigue of the spring progress with repeated actuations.

Q. What types of fluids can be allowed to flow through the valve?

Takano's proportional control valve is a valve for gas control. The basic specifications are for inert gases, but it can also handle special gases such as corrosive gases. Please consult with us.

Drive control method
Q. Is it possible to operate the proportional control valve with PLC (4-20mA)?

We do not have valves that can operate with 4-20mA.

Q. Could you explain the control method of a proportional control valve?

PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control is common. We also have controllers dedicated to proportional control for your consideration.

Q. Is the proportional control valve controlled by current or voltage?

The output flow rate of the proportional valve is proportional to the current value, and it can be controlled by either current or voltage.

Custom/Design Change
Q. Would it be possible to request custom items?

We accept changes such as voltage, orifice size, and parts in contact with gas. Please feel free to consult us about other customizations as well.
